Throwin' Up Your Sign

This past Saturday night, three classrooms burned down including the special ed room. I heard from the rumor mill that it was a gang-related arson.

I HATE MY HIGH SCHOOL BECAUSE FOR A RELATIVELY NICE SUBURBAN TOWN, IT IS RIDDLED WITH GANGSTERS THAT MAKE ME FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE AT SCHOOL.

I wore my uber comfortable rose-printed scarf on Monday, and was asked by school administration to take it off. I understand that wearing gang colors (red vs. blue at our area) is unsafe, but srsly?! I was wearing oxfords, a ruffle grey dress, and a dark grey drapey cardigan. Did I look like a gang member? Obviously.

The next day when I had completely forgotten that I was a gangster, I wore my new blazer and thought I looked hella good. I started feeling uncomfortable even before lunch, so I took it off and stuffed it in my locker ):

Black shirt: Gap; Grey tube dress (folded to be a skirt): Hollister; Velvet beaded belt: mom's closet; Red blazer: Marshall's
I just wish that school could be a safe environment where what color I wear determines how safe I am. I rather just worry about how other catty girls think of my clothes and not whether I'm going to be shoved in the halls or even possibly shot. Last year, there was a gang-related shooting at the doughnut shop across the street from my school DURING LUNCH when high school students were inside buying food! RIDICULOUS.

In other news, I thrifted a skirt last week and I'm going again, with a friend, tomorrow!

Don't you hate it when you wear an awesome outfit and then don't get any pictures of it!? I decided to recreate via MS paint haha :)

Black blazer: Macy's Juniors; Sequined grey tank: H&M; Red jersey skirt: Forever 21 (this is actually a halter dress that I wrapped around to make a skirt-- v. complicated to describe); Black bow belt: H&M; Black flats: Urban Outfitters

I went to Berkeley to visit a friend, eat the best frozen yogurt ever (clearly, I am addicted to froyo), and buy NOTHING. I go to Telegraph and I leave empty-handed. Somebody tell me where the cute vintage stores are at?! Oh, and the American Apparel there was a total disappointment. I was expecting some kind of epic store front and I get this tiny closet. You suck again, AA.

Blazer: J. Crew; T-shirt dress: Volcom; Scarf: mom's; Oxfords: Payless
I LOVE Mims from lookbook.nu. She is a darling and dresses so well. I tried to copy my favorite outfit of hers, but she wore a white parka and I only have a white oversized jungle-explorer blazer from my mom. Didn't really go with the rest of the outfit, will try to integrate blazer into other clothes.

Cardigan: Gap; Dress: Volcom; Scarf: thrifted; Oxfords: Payless
Who else watched Gossip Girls tonight?! I didn't really watch for the fashunz today since I was multitasking (psychology homework and lookbook.nu) and just listening, but woah okay. The writers like to make us confused out of our minds with these TWISTS and scandals. I think I should let everybody know that I am, in fact, in love with Chuck Bass. And I thought Jenny's design on the form was no bueno, to be honest.

Cardigan: Gap; Tank: Gap; Skirt: Abercrombie and Fitch; Oxfords: Payless
If anyone was wondering, I'm holding my lamp to control the light better. The yellow thing is an LV ribbon that comes with gift boxes that I got for free when I volunteered at a gift-wrapping booth. Sadly, there are times where I think this is the only LV I will ever own.

I'm feeling a lot more positive about finding my own style :)

Crisis

I feel like I'm having a minor style identity crisis here. I've realized that I don't have a personal and individual style, and I only just copy what I see. I mean, people do that, but it just doesn't feel like myself. I was considering to take a break from reading all of my favorite bloggers, but I think what I'm going to do is just really focus my blog as a record of my journey to find my own style. I just get so overwhelmed by trends, apparent fashion "necessities" (those Victoria's Secret studded booties, anyone?), and other people's styles.

What I would really want is just somebody to talk to or to be a mentor when I'm trying to find my own style. It's incredibly frustrating to spend an hour trying to decide what to wear, and I don't think people should do that. I want to be able to love every piece of clothing in my closet, and have pieces that work with each other.

Things I like, no matter the current trend:
-Plaid. I can't get enough of it.
-Showing leg (with and without tights)
-Black shoes, especially heels
-A-line skirts
-Elegant clothes. I really like ballerina inspired wear, or just dance inspired clothes.
-Bright prints

If I start with a list of what I like, I think I can build from there. I don't know. I'm just overwhelmed and confused.

Back to School

Today was my first day of school! I'm a senior in high school. To be honest, one of my favorite things to do on the first day is to check other people's outfits out since I know everyone spends forever in front of their closet, thinking about what to wear on the first day back. Too bad I didn't have enough time to snap some pictures of some outfits I saw today! I'll try to do that sometime since there are some interesting people at my school. INTERESTING.

What I wore:

Top: Lillith; Belt: mom's; Jeans: Paris Blues; Sandals (they are the type that lace around your ankle): J. Crew; Bag: H&M; Bangs: myself ):

And my hybrid pencil case/calculator that I've had since I was 7 that I still use:

It's from Ikea!

Also, I got my circle lens contacts delivered to me yesterday. Circle lenses are those huge contacts that make your pupils appear bigger. Purely for cosmetic use, but you can get prescription lenses as well. I got a pair of green ones :D

STRESS from college, huge school project that lets you graduate or not, AP classes, color guard auditions, and trying to make friends. It's freaking me out already gahhhhh.
I probably won't be updating as often because of this school shenanigans.

Obsession #1

SHOES. I can't stop looking at them online, in stores, on other people, etc. I swear it's a disorder I need medication for.

However, all my shoes are black and I think I need to fix that soon. Okay well, as soon as I have enough money to go shopping again. Also, I shop in very cheap places so they're not actually that expensive at all. Nothing over $30 on my wish list!

My take on the gladiators:
I really prefer the variations because the whole "ribcage" style isn't one of my favorites, although I have to give it to em for being super comfortable. But really, the whole gladiator style pretty much encompasses any kind of shoe that appears to cover your feet in a peekaboo and rugged way.

I like the chunky platforms that have been popping up everywhere, and I'd say they are a safe transition into the fall. They're a good contrast to the more feminine skirts and airy fabrics we're going to be seeing this fall. And pairing these with bandage dress would be so. dangerously. sexy!! (

I also like the woven looks. I know it's not the most known gladiator style, but in my book it does so there. I actually have these Athena Alexander sandals in black, and they are comfortable as hell. With just a mere nod to the trend, I can see these lasting into further seasons. Plus, I have to say I've worn these shoes with so many different outfits and they always seem to look perfect. (Photo: shop.nordstrom.com)

I couldn't find a picture of these, but I'm also cheering on the return of the tie gladiators that were popular about 3 years ago. You know, the sandals that were a mess of string and wrapped around the ankle and even up the calf? The people (aka me) who bought them back then are massively excited to be able to wear them again :)

Wish list:

I'm not too sure about these though. I like the teal, but the black t-strap looks too giant.

I can see myself wearing these all the time. T-straps are growing on me, as well as white/cream/beige shoes. Plus it's elastic! I think that's cool.

The only pair of red shoes I own are patent leather flats with a pointed toe and a BUCKLE. I need to upgrade. These seem so fun and whimsical.

I'm looking into a pair of white wedges/espadrilles. Clearly, I won't be wearing them until next spring/summer, so I can stop crying about how every pair I want is sold out.

I don't care what you think, I like these! I'm a sucker for little cute details and pink. True fact: they don't have it in my size.

For some reason, mustard yellow really appeals to me. I'd like to think it goes with most everything, including black and grey. My entire wardrobe is mostly black and grey.
